Earp Street Park

Hey, we're Rob and Brian. We've been on the block a few years and we try to keep this old park on our block clean. We love this park and we love that our little block has a place like this for kids to play, so we'd like to pitch in a little more. This page is what we're working on, what we're hoping to do, and what materials we're on the hunt for to get it done.

Park Party Palooza & Fundraiser

Where? The old playground at 2624 Earp St!

Give us a shout!

If you see two guys out there working on stuff, come say hi! If not, drop us a message below.

What We've Done

We raised $43 from the Park Party Palooza and mulched all 4 planters! That's enough money to buy new wood for one of the benches (and some paint!) and we couldn't be prouder. Thanks so much to all who came out with us!!!

The planters had gnarly weeds throughout. We cut them down and dug them up to prevent roots breaking the concrete.

Tree planting season is coming up — looking for appropriate small trees for large containers that offer shade or fruit (e.g., fig tree).

Lots of weeding! I didn’t realize how quickly it can get overgrown across the fencing and in the planters. With Fall approaching, that means we’re almost in tree planting season - and how good would some fruiting or shade trees look in those planters? Fig trees have been on my mind lately.

Planted a blueberry bush and a blackberry bush! The blueberry bush was from Farm Philly and the blackberry bush I pulled from my garden. Not sure how they'll survive with the squirrels, but we'll find out!

The Earp Street lot from the sidewalk: cracked asphalt with weeds coming through, a weathered picnic table, wood benches, round concrete planters, one big tree, and a chain-link fence between two buildings.

What We'd Like To Do

  • Put up a fence but not a tall fence, maybe hip height wood fence to help stop the dumping there
  • Put up a “No Dumping” sign (our Block Captain can request a free one)
  • Replace the wood slats for the picnic table and two benches, then paint/seal the wood so they last
  • Plant some container trees in the planters. Something that can provide some shade in the summer, but not large trees that can’t fit in a planter
  • Repair the cracked pavement across the lot (working on getting some grant money to pay for it)

What We Need

  • 18 pressure-treated slats, 2x6 10' long
  • Paint
  • A "No Dumping" sign (our Block Captain can request it)
  • Hip height fencing (maybe wood pallets would work?)
  • Container trees (trees that don't have sprawling roots)
